Acer shows the teeth on the market of LED monitors with a screen to look sharp and behavior.
The LCD S243HL is part of the first series of monitors with LED backlight for the world of computing. From a stylish design and a very competitive price, he also showed good performance during our tests.
The expectations
Acer signs in the first display of its S series, clearly oriented towards the high end. The 24 inch model S243HL is distinguished by a meticulous sharp design, a brushed aluminum stand and a screen thickness of only 15 mm, made possible by an LED backlight. The features are attractive, with full HD resolution, two HDMI inputs, a TN + Film for an announced response time of 2ms, without forgetting that a contrast ratio would reach 8 million: 1 in dynamic mode. Let’s see what it really is.
The truth
As usual, the reality is much more sober. We measured a contrast ratio of 980:1 at fixed luminosity, a value certainly much more modest, but very correct. Measurements were made with a brightness of 190 cd / m corresponding to the factory settings. Although it is far from 2ms announced by Acer, the response time S243HL is also very good, measured 5 ms for a round trip between white and black. With a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels for a 16:9 aspect ratio, this is what attract dedicated players.
A beautiful beast neatly trimmed, but not very flexible
The look of the monitor S243HL is undoubtedly one of the most significant market. The lines are elegant and thin, with a bias of angular and modern style. However, it will only be possible to tilt the screen vertically only about thirty degrees. Unable to rotate and even adjust the height. The portrait is excluded. The interface remains pretty good and even excellent for the menu configuration image, with a complete interface and easy access.
A well controlled consumption
For a first LED display, Acer perfectly manages the environmental benefit of LED technology. This monitor consumes only 21.4 W according to our measurements, a better standard than the average of other 24-inch LED market, which revolve more around 26 W in operation.
Review conclusions
The Acer S243HL thus provides a good screen, both by design and by its performance. A very good screen, even knowing that its price is announced to be 269 euros only! A 24-inch quick and delicious LED technology, ideal for gamers and those who require care for the visual style of their office without breaking the bank.
