Asus G73JH
This G73JH Asus notebook is an excellent friend for a gamer !
Powerful and also polished than Alienware, Asus is the G73JH sold 1000 euros less.
The G73JH Asus is the latest addition to the range Republic Of Gamer. This notebook equipped with ‘high performance’ components is dedicated to players. Well equipped and remarkably finished, he is sure to satisfy the most demanding !
The expectations before test
When Asus promises a machine for players, one is rarely disappointed journey. After a model incorporating 3D Vision Nvidia , the ROG ( Republic Of Gamer ) extended its offer to cut a new benchmark for performance , performance and … performance ! More for the video game that text input ( this is possible , however) , the G73JH is majestic , like the plane F117A Night Hawks which is largely based. And as the aircraft that inspired it, this PC Gamer is promised by Asus as extremely Stealth … Takeoff clearance, proceed to flight testing. Note that this configuration is marketed from April.
The reality
The PC games have beautiful hand right now. After Alienware M11x (And a refresh M17x which the test is expected to soon), Asus is coming out weapons of mass destruction player. The Taiwanese are never short of ideas on this niche, but I must admit that with this G73JH, Alienware ‘s to worry. And in terms of finishing, we are left speechless ! Goodbye plastic Glossy and devastating look : the G73JH is dressed all in black , with a coating app reminiscent of camouflage material and adds real character to this ” fighter ” .
No defects in the body!
This ” baby ” is a massive 17.3 -inch screen with HD. With relatively prominent lines on the edges rounded, this laptop does not go unnoticed. Its design is remarkable : not too thick , it is slightly tilted towards the user for optimal ergonomics. The airflow under the chassis is also facilitated. Note that the landing gear of this notebook are thick rubber pads. Everything is designed in detail.
We talked comfort in use: the keyboard Chicklet backlight ( three different intensities ) is extremely nice in games because surrounded by palm rest mass. In the center stands proudly touchpad , wide , responsive and comfortable . Asus provides a mouse player signed Razer for accuracy is to go in shooting games . Note also the presence of SteelSeries headphones and a carrying bag in the carton: what going on Lan Party Fully equipped. Finally, a trap door under the machine gives access to all components, CPU excluded.
Between cruise and post-combustion …
To honor the outside, nothing beats a beautiful interior . Of course , when talking about machine player , you do not expect to find a low-power processor at the helm. This is the Core i7 720QM which is the rate ( 1.6 GHz on each of its four cores , 2.8 GHz Turbo Mode ). Asus adds a few niceties of its own. In the BIOS of the machine , it is possible to switch to turbo mode (enabled by default it seems, but Asus does not support …), that is to say that processor will be overclocked automatically in all circumstances. If you switch to Normal mode , a push button TwinTurboAt the top left of the keyboard, allows the machine to undergo a overclocking slight ( 4-6 %). In fact, we have not really seen any impact on our test results regarding the Normal mode with TwinTurbo active. In Turbo mode enabled in the BIOS, the differences are slightly more noticeable , but nothing to worry jaw dropping.
Reactors technically mature
The Intel processor is supported by 8GB of DDR3 memory. Some excess does no harm and Windows 7 Home Edition 64bit seems particularly important since assessing the grade index of 7.5 ( out of a possible 7.9) . Finally, the graphics are more than equal : an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 with 1GB of dedicated memory . Something to be more than comfortable in games , even in the native resolution of the HD screen ( 1920 x 1080 pixels ), . Also, if you play in a lower definition , as you keep the ratio 16 / 9 , the screen displays beautiful pictures and you can get a little stronger on the resources of components increasing details and screens . We were able to play Dirt 2 DirectX 11 without problem , as in most of our test games without having to retrace our high detail settings . Everything passes and this is a real pleasure. Finally, the presence of a Blu- ray is really significant, especially considering its price.
End with the cooling system and the internal layout of the machine. The fan is very quiet. Hot air is expelled at the rear by two openings consistent, and we must recognize that efficiency is the rendezvous : even in phases of severe stress , the temperature remains quite acceptable and normal.
Some negatives ….
Storage Equipment strike just this ideal picture . The two 500GB hard drives have embedded a speed of 5400 rpm. In short , square wheels on a racing car ! Why not have opted for models with 7200 rpm (or more) , a SSD for the system and a 640 GB model for storage? Besides, Windows endorse this choice as soon as the machine picked up a 5.8 ( on 7.9 ) with respect to the index on disk. And our test programs confirmed: trade in reading and writing are definitely down compared to the prowess of the machine in general.
The game sound is ensured by the Avanced EAX HD 4.0 and Creative PC incorporates minicaisson low . If the quality of the whole is good, as soon as you activate the spatialization of sound, it’s a disaster. It must go through the headset so that the minutes be more audible. However, few players are using the speakers, so this part of the machine should be used occasionally for watching movies.
Test and review conclusions
We had fun building an equivalent configuration on the Dell site , using a chassis Alienware M17x . The manufacturer does not offer the Radeon Mobility HD 5870 on its website and at lower graphics card and processor below , we are more than 1,000 euros above the price of the Asus … Then, of course, DisplayPort and eSATA are not present on the G73JH … but who cares ! Although hard drives do not honor the machine, it is difficult not to put five stars for both the price for performance.
