Canon PowerShot S90
A small but powerful model
With the arrival of the G11, the attention of amateurs looking for a compact performance has been focused on this model. Yet in its wake, the Canon PowerShot S90 is well worth that one is interested in him! Unlike the G11 which is a large compact with a very technical aspect that attracts the eye, the S90 is a small model for aesthetics and presentation very classic.
The same G11 sensor
Canon PowerShot S90 it uses the same sensor as the G11, a model larger than on consumer devices and with fewer pixels. Logically, we can expect better performance, especially when it comes to mount ISO . Another big attraction of the S90 is its small zoom opens at f / 2 in wide angle. Things are less superb telephoto side, opening with a more mundane 4.9 but this lens is very compact and we can not win on all fronts ! Offering a truly successful ergonomics with controls clever, the S90 offers more automation of all modes desirable for the demanding photographer.
Without HD video
The only big missing will, for many fans, the lack of HD video. In practice, even at full aperture, the Canon PowerShot S90 delivers perfectly exposed shots and very defined almost no visible defects. The increase in sensitivity is very well managed by Canon, with a very good image quality up to ISO 800. Beyond that, things deteriorate with a loss of sharpness and noise becomes visible but the pictures are used for applications where one remains in limited sizes.
Test and review conclusions
In the compact camera category to really take on itself all the time, the Canon PowerShot S90 is definitely one of the best choices if you search for quality photos in all circumstances.
