Innovative interface
LG has managed to build the name of a manufacturer on whom you can rely on in terms of tactile mobile phones. The LG Arena KM900 is a phone with full equipment and a truly innovative interface. In terms of graphics, it has a 3.00 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors with a 480 x 800 pixels resolution. More compact than most tactile phones that are available on the market today, it has a fine finish even if it comes in a small plastic side. In terms of weight, when compared to the 133 g iPhone 3G, it weighs only 105 g.
The display of LG Arena KM900 also includes a new touch interface called S-Class 3D, a multi-touch input method, an accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate and a proximity sensor for auto turn-off.
Improved navigation
The interface has borrowed some elements to its more illustrious competitors in order to offer improved navigation. The arrangement of icons is similar to that of iPhone, while the menu consisting of cubes with different facets that give access to various functions reminds us of the HTC TouchFlow. The touchscreen responds well to the most delicate touch of the finger, enabling fast and easy access to photo, music and music files and making navigation an intuitive operation. Thanks to the accelerometer sensor, the display switches automatically to landscape mode and all the icons appear on the screen.
As expected, the 3.00 inch touchscreen makes multimedia enjoyable and offers good audio-visual quality. Thanks to its multipoint technology, it is possible to zoom, enlarge or reduce the image at the same time, using only two fingers, as it also the case with iPhone. Because of the LCD technology, the surface of the LG Arena KM900 screen reflects the light and cannot be used in bright sunlight.
In terms of connectivity, the LG Arena KM900 comes with a 7.2 Mbps HSDPA speed, Class 12 (4+1/3+2/2+3/1+4 slots), 32 – 48 kbps GPRS, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, 2.0 with A2DP Bluetooth and a WAP 2.0/xHTML, HTML browser.
As for multimedia, the camera shows a 5 megapixel resolution as compared to the only 2 Mpixels of the iPhone.
Test and review conclusions
Like its predecessors, the LG Arena is able to play movies in the DivX format without prior conversion. That and the Dolby Mobile sound enhancement feature turn LG into a real video player. With such a package, it was necessary to provide a big storage space of 8GB internal memory for photos, music and video.
