Motorola announces its third Android smartphone

Motorola has taken advantage of CES in Las Vegas to announce its third smartphone Android, after Dext and Milestone. At first glance, the Backflip offers many similarities with the Dextran. The design certainly seems more elegant and neat, but it incorporates the fundamentals that have made the success of its predecessor: the environment in overlay MotoBlur Android facilitating the aggregation of content from social networks and a wide comfortable Qwerty keyboard.

After closer inspection, there is however a difference: the keyboard does not slide under the screen, he turns his back. Thanks to a hinge, it is, however, possible to open the smartphone as a book, the screen then being juxtaposed with the keyboard. A design that makes it easier to take advantage of multimedia capabilities without investing in a Backflip support, the device is easily posing on a table in half-open position. The more original a touchpad has been integrated into the back of the screen, which can easily surf the Web and click on links, not put his finger on the screen.

For the rest, Backflip includes most of the characteristics of Dext: Android in its 1.5 version (admittedly a bit outdated, Motorola provides an update to 2.0 or 2.1), a Qualcomm processor at 528 MHz with integrated GPS, a 5 megapixel sensor, but this time with flash LED and finally a touch screen just 8 inches diagonal. There are also the inevitable: the device is Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0 and USB 2.0, compatible with mobile broadband networks, the EDGE 3.5G The manufacturer does not mention the internal memory of Backflip, but he accepts MicroSD cards up to 32GB and comes with a 2GB card Motorola announces his camera for a range of up to 7 hours talk time, thanks to a powerful battery of 1400 mAh. Note also that for those who found the Dext a bit heavy, Backflip weighs 30 grams less!

The Backflip with Motorola MotoBlur is available in Europe from April 24.
