A DSS PCI Express twice more effective than a SSD, but at the same price
The SSS is the first RevoDrive whose price is not higher than those of current SSDs, but it does not support the trim.
The OCZ is a RevoDrive SSS is to say a SSD on PCI Express. It includes two controllers SandForce in Raid-0 to reach very high speeds, the same price as a traditional DSS.
The flash memory is revolutionizing the storage world, with exciting new formats. After the SSD S-ATA 2.5-inch SSDs here on PCI-Express, bigger size, but also much faster. These storage devices are instead called SSS, for Solid State Storage. The OCZ model brings a major advantage here: it is announced at the same price as a conventional SSD, while the SSS are usually much more expensive.
No technology TRIM
The SSS is composed of 120 or 240 GB MLC flash memory, connected to two controllers SandForce-1200 prepared in Raid-0 directly on the card. The Raid-0 is managed by a controller Sata also integrated the SSS. The advantage is simple: the two controllers SandForce already very efficient, offering speeds advertised 540 MB / s read and 480 MB / s write, which is excellent. The SSS is also announced bootable on all motherboards can boot on a Raid storage.
The drawback is its very annoying: the chip that handles SATA Raid-0 SSS is unable to relay commands from the TRIM technology, which maintains the same level of performance over time. Another disadvantage: the consumption of up to 8 W Revodrive running (4W standby), cons about 2 W maximum for a classical SSD S-ATA interface.
The performance of the SSS are therefore likely to disappoint after a few hours of use. OCZ claims, however, work on a utility able to apply the TRIM manually to restore the initial performance of the disc. The Revodrive will be available in August 2010 in Europe, at a price of 420 euros for the 120GB version and 750 Euros for the 240 GB model
