The content of the package and expectations before test
Launched with great fanfare at the last Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the Samsung GT S8500, Samsung Alias Wave, was expected to turn a public eager to discover the majority of new multimedia smartphone concocted by the Korean manufacturer.
Equipped with the new operating system Bada Wave Samsung launches so this new range of devices expected to give trouble for monarchs iOS or Android, so to improve the image of Samsung in the world of mobile telephony. Technical features very attractive on paper, the Samsung Wave is he able to mix with the intense battle being waged between the top names in the discipline (4 iPhone, HTC Desire)? The new smartphone offered by Samsung is it simply the height of the intense media campaign which he has been? Response elements in this test.
What is in the box ?
Before detailing the performance of the beast, let’s briefly on the contents of the box in which comes the Samsung Wave. As usual, the Korean manufacturer offers us a complete packaging in which we find all the accessories needed to use a smartphone.
You will find:
- AC charger
- USB cable
- A stereo headset in-ear
- A leaflet
- A CD containing the synchronization program Kies
There is therefore the absence of a microSD memory card. Even if the device has enough internal memory (2 GB), adding an additional storage medium has not been refused, since users greedy (in terms of music and video in particular) find themselves very rapidly in crowded conditions. Besides the video recording in 720p format, which requires a significant storage space.
Apart from this absence, the accessories seem well made and trimmed for a long-term use.
The interface
Enjoying the interface TouchWizz 3.0, the Samsung Wave offers a simple interface, in which it is very easy to navigate. Users range from Korean manufacturer Player will not be disoriented by this interface (TouchWizz fitted as this range of terminals) very intuitive. The home screen is customizable through 9 pages, allowing you to integrate a large number of widgets.
The virtual keyboard of the system is rather pleasant to use. To write SMS using the keyboard in landscape mode seems desirable, the keys are more impressive.
The quality of communications is it to go. The record is clear and precise, even if the maximum volume is a little bit tight, especially for calls made in adverse conditions.
The management of the accelerometer is also satisfactory, since the screen instantly switches to landscape when the invites.
To synchronize all of your files on your computer, the Samsung Wave comes with the software Kies. Taking the key concepts of its predecessor, the Samsung PC Studio, this new tool lets you synchronize including managing your SMS by saving on your hard drive or printing. As with the Apple iTunes Store, the Samsung is available from Apps Kies. The suite also includes a video converter, which ultimately remains very marginal, since the text proposed by Samsung is compatible with almost all video formats. The more creative you will love also the presence of a video editing software (actually quite brief) and photo editing. Kies finally enters a media player called “content manager”.
Autonomy
Let us finally the real point of the Samsung Black Wave, namely autonomy. Thus, it appears very delicate moving ahead of the day during heavy use (mp3, email, 3G or camera). The 1500 mAh battery is built like the black point system and does not really seem suited to the power of board equipment, particularly for the 1 GHz processor, which requires substantial resources. It should however remain measured in respect of the autonomy of the Samsung device, since users will simply consume less widely available performance.
On the other hand, some tips will save you precious hours of use. By adjusting the brightness of the screen or by forcing the grip of EDGE (not 3G), the autonomy of your mobile will take a few colors. Nevertheless, it seems impossible to exceed 48 hours of use, even for very basic use.
Test and review conclusions
Following this test, the balance is quite satisfactory for the new smartphone developed by Samsung. One can even say that the Korean hit by a huge blow by offering us a very versatile device, without flaws.
The enthronement of the new operating system Bada is a success, since this new OS has generally impressed by its functionality and stability.
On the other hand, the multimedia features of the Samsung Wave we have greatly impressed, since the smartphone board an arsenal of high-quality, ready to satisfy the most demanding users in this area.
Finally, how can we not mention the quality of the Super Screen AMOLED proposed by the Korean manufacturer, since it is simply beautiful and very pleasant to use.
Finally, Samsung sign thus making a reappearance in the world of high-end smartphones and could well give a few references to sweat that kind of iPhone are 4 or some HTC models. For besides its very satisfactory performance, the Samsung Wave has a rather attractive price, since the new smartphone from the Korean manufacturer is available from 300 euros (price without subscription). It is therefore very far from the stratospheric prices of the iPhone 4.
