Cisco routers affected by security breaches
This is especially true of the first generation (released in 2003) based on Swan (Structured Wireless-Aware Network). Integrated into the company LAN network, this architecture is responsible for identifying, isolating and disable the illegal access points. But it has some weaknesses as WLCCP (Wireless LAN Protocol Context), a version specific to Cisco LWAPP and adapted from (Light-Weight Access Point Protocol). Result, two researchers have proved that we could intercept such flows, or retrieve encryption keys.
SNMP faulted
The risks also exist with the third and latest generation of routers. The Cisco Unified Wireless Network (CUWN) based on a stronger encryption system that the Swan is the weak link this time on a web interfaces and precisely because passwords default SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) which are easy to find on the web.
According to the German duo, these weaknesses are not just Cisco routers with all of Vulnerabilities. Both experts advised Cisco and decided not to disclose their methods before the manufacturer does so patches.
