Firefox 4 could include silent updates
A turning point for Mozilla Firefox strategy ?
The conversation between developers working on the functionality of Firefox 4 has taken a turn a little hot. The discussion is based on the inclusion or not of a function of silent update, as Chrome, in the next version of Mozilla browser.
The camps clash between those who want an automatic system updates, not requiring further user intervention, and those wanting to keep full control of their machines.
The automatic updates would address the problem of millions of users who do not update their browser, because they do not know how, or because they fear losing their extensions, bookmarks or history. They are suddenly exposed to all the vulnerabilities patched yet.
Minor updates on the quiet update ?
For the moment, a compromise is emerging: only minor updates, security would be affected by the new quiet system, and just as long as all the installed extensions are compatible.
Changes IU important as the move to version 4.5 and 5.0, would require the agreement of the user. In addition, an option will completely disable the silent update for those who wish.
In this way, most home users will benefit from a more protected, while specialists who want to control everything on their machine, which are anyway only to change the default settings, will be met.
